They can practice the tactile skills of folding, cutting and gluing as they piece together their bird.
Learning Outcomes based on The Early Learning Framework for Australia:
• Children develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, confidence, creativity, commitment, enthusiasm, persistence, imagination and reflexivity.
• Children transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another.
- Brenex Matte Circles
- Brenex Matte Triangles
Provide children with 1 Red Brenex Circle, 2 Yellow Brenex Circles, 1 Black Brenex Triangle, 1 Brown Brenex Triangle and 1 Red Brenex Triangle. Children will also need scissors and glue.
Fold the red circle in half and glue it to one of the yellow circles.
Cut the red triangle in half.
Fold the halved triangle in half, and glue to the second yellow circle.
Attach the two circles together forming a head and a body.
Cut some hair/feathers from the other half of the red triangle, and glue to the bird's head.
Cut a small circle, a larger circle and eyelashes from the black triangle. Stick the smaller circle to the white side of the larger circle for an eye. Attach the eye to the bird's head, and glue the eyelashes on top.
Cut the brown triangle in half, and then in half again. These two smaller triangles are the bird's feet. Glue them to the bottom of the bird's body.
Students can get creative using different colours and embellishments to decorate their bird.
